Section of 401 closed at Prescott

A section of Highway 401 remains closed following a multiple vehicle collision on Highway 401 between Prescott and Highway 416.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that two transport trailers and three vehicles were travelling eastbound on Highway 401 when the collision occurred.

Two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three individuals have been transported to the hospital by ambulance and one individual by air ambulance with serious and life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin.

A 60-year-old male from Brossard, Quebec was arrested for dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm.

Highway 401 eastbound is closed until further notice.

Highway 401 westbound remains closed from an earlier collision on November 27 at approximately 3:50 p.m. involving two other transport trailers.

The Ontario Provincial Police Technical Collision Investigator is assisting with the investigation.

Witnesses sought in fatal investigation

Ontario Provincial Police investigators are seeking witnesses in the wake of a fatal collision on Highway 417 in East Hawkesbury November 29.

Police want to speak to anyone who would have driven through the area just prior to the collision and would have seen tractor-trailers parked on the side of the road of Highway 417 westbound at exit/off-ramp #5.

Anyone who observed the involved vehicles any time between midnight and the time of the collision is asked to contact Constable Alexandre Bolduc at 613-632-2729.

Alexandre Roberge, 36,from St-Mathieu-De-Beloeil, Québec, died in the crash that occurred at 3:40 a.m. Three tractor-trailer units were involved in the collision; two were fully consumed by fire.

Fatal in South Glengarry

One man was killed and three people were injured in a three-vehicle collision today (November 30) at 11:30 a.m. on County Road 2 near Purcell Road in South Glengarry.

A passenger vehicle was eastbound when the male driver lost control and collided with a westbound minivan.

Three occupants from the eastbound vehicle were taken to hospital where an adult male passenger was pronounced deceased.

The driver and a female passenger received life-threatening injuries. The adult female driver (lone occupant) of the other vehicle received non-life threatening injuries. A third vehicle (pick-up & trailer) was involved but made minor contact after the fact.

No injuries resulted.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting SD&G OPP with the investigation. A section of County Road 2, between Gilmour Road and Purcell Road is closed to traffic with detours in place.

Further details will be forwarded at a later time pending next-of kin notifications.

Fatal closes section of 417

A fatal collision involving three tractor trailers that burst into flames has closed a section of the westbound Highway 417 at County Road 14 near Chute-à-Blondeau east of Hawkesbury. One person died in the accident that occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m.Highway 417 Westbound is closed at County Road 14 and detours will be in effect for several hours.

34-year-old killed in crash

The victim of a fatal motor vehicle accident near Avonmore earlier today has been identified as 34-year-old Justin Lascelle, of North Stormont. The accident occurred at 7:04 a.m. on County Road 15 when a westbound 2012 Toyota left the roadway, struck several trees and rolled over. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fatal crash investigation continues

The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police detachment is still investigating a fatal accident that occurred October 21, shortly before 7:30 p.m. on County Road 22 in St-Bernardin.
Frederic Therrien, 17, of Hawkesbury, was killed when a vehicle with six occupants went out of control as it approached Concession Road.

17-year-old dies in crash

A 17-year-old from Hawkesbury has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident that occurred Wednesday night near St-Bernardin.
Frederick Therrien was one of five passengers in a vehicle that went out of control at County Road 22 and Concession Road 8 at about 7:15 p.m.
The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its side on Concession Road 8.
Some occupants were ejected. Three occupants were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Two other passengers suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospitals in Ottawa.

Alcohol a factor in fatal

Alcohol was a factor in the collision that claimed three lives on Highway 401 near Lancaster Sunday night, reports the Ontario Provincial Police.
A Nova Scotia man was killed when the vehicle he was driving the wrong way struck a westbound car and a tractor trailer, killing a Kingston woman and her mother-in-law.
The number of tickets issued for speeding, racing failure to wear seatbelts were all up this Labour Day weekend compared to 2014.

Driver charged in fatal

A 77-year-old Gatineau woman has been charged with careless driving in a fatal crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Highway 417 near Maxville in September. Sylvain Coulombe, 38, of St-Eugène-Guigues, Québec, died at the scene of the crash. More in our February 11 edition.
