Poor road conditions and inclement weather have meant the cancellation of some sports events which were scheduled for today, February 4.
As we receive notice of cancellations/postponements, this article will be updated. Here is what we have so far:
- Char-Lan Skating Club: Monday night skating ice time cancelled
- South Glengarry pickleball: cancelled for tonight at Char-Lan DHS due to school closure
- Glengarry Soccer League: Monday night soccer action at the dome is cancelled
- LSLMHL midget B house hockey: game tonight in Cornwall for Alexandria Glens and Colts is postponed
Another day, another snow day for area students.
If you managed to dig out from yesterday's snow, you can look forward to freezing rain today, when,
of course, school bus transportation has been cancelled for the fourth consecutive day.
Driving is an adventure again as snow has given way to black ice and slush.
And some parking lots are like rinks.
But we can anticipate a return to lower temperatures later today.
Make it Snow Day Number 3 this week as Old Man Winter decided to give us another helping of snow last night and today.
We can look forward to milder temperatures, and, of course, freezing rain later today, apparently.
Take it easy out there, folks.
How bad is it? A snowplow was in the ditch on the 417 near St-Isidore earlier this morning.
The official opening to the winter season of activities of the Summerstown Trails is scheduled for Sunday, January 13.
Recent snowfall has allowed volunteers to groom the trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat bike use. The opening had been delayed due to prevailing icy conditions and lack of snow in the Summerstown Forest.
Friends of the Summerstown Trails volunteers will be on hand, 10 a.m. through 3 p.m., to welcome and assist visitors. Equipment rental is available.
The parking lot is located on the west side of County Road 27 (Summerstown Road), just north of Summerstown Station and the Highway 401 interchange.
The official opening day for the 2019 season at the Summerstown Trails, scheduled for Sunday, January 6, had been postponed due to the icy conditions in the forest.
However, FOTST board representative Jean-Pierre Tibi tells The News that volunteers are optimistic that snow in the forecast will allow the opening day to be rescheduled. They are aiming for Sunday, January 13, though as of this posting time, this has not been confirmed.
Updates will be posted online and in The Glengarry News, as information becomes available.
This week, students in the outdoor education class at Glengarry DHS enjoyed some winter hiking on the Glengarry Trails.
