Wendy MacPherson, a former municipal councillor and school board trustee, passed away December 13 after a long battle against cancer.
She was 50.
In 2014, Ms. MacPherson was elected Upper Canada District School Board Trustee for Ward 9, a constituency comprised of North Glengarry, South Glengarry, North Stormont, South Stormont.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my former colleague, Wendy MacPherson,” says John McAllister, Chair of the UCDSB. “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I extend my sincere condolences to her family and to the local residents of her home community of Alexandria. She had a feisty spirit fueled by her passion for local rural schools and a strong belief that publicly funded education must serve everyone’s child. Wendy made us all think, and laugh.”
Current Ward 9 Trustee John Danaher, adds, “Wendy worked passionately for the residents of Ward 9 and for the schools in this area. It would be an understatement to say that she will be missed by all of us who reside in the area.”
In honour of Ms. MacPherson’s contribution as a school board trustee for Ward 9, all flags at UCDSB schools in the North Stormont, South Stormont, North Glengarry and South Glengarry will be lowered to half-staff until Thursday morning. The flag at the Board Office in Brockville will also be lowered and a Book of Condolence is available for signing in the lobby from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held in Alexandria on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
