The 2019 house league spring tackle football season is scheduled to hit the gridiron on Sunday, with games in Alexandria and Cornwall.

The field at GDHS will host a trio of Glengarry Gaels games, versus respective Cornwall #3 squads: tykes at 10 a.m., mosquitoes at 11:30 a.m., and bantams at 1 p.m.

There is no Glengarry team at the peewee level, though the Cornwall #1 peewees include Glengarry players and coaches. That squad is slated to play at CCVS, at noon.

The 2019 SD&G high school soccer schedule is in limbo, due to field conditions and rainy, cold weather forecast for the rest of the week.

Play had been slated to begin May 1 on several fronts, including at Char-Lan DHS in Williamstown, where a full day of matches was booked.

The likely scenario now is that the season will be compressed, with game times shortened in order to complete league action in time for playoffs and EOSSAA.

All UCDSB fields remain closed.

Hello Soccer Gang: with 30-40 mm of rain coming to the area and extremely high winds (cold) we have decided to cancel tomorrow's and Thursday's games. 

A NEW schedule will be sent out THURSDAY.

The hope is that matches slated for Friday will be able to go ahead. The News will post updates when they become available.

The spring football season opens this week for the four Glengarry Gaels youth teams, with indoor practice sessions.

The tykes (ages 7-9) run practices on Thursdays, in gym 1 at Alexandria's GDHS, and Fridays at VCI in Vankleek Hill. Times are 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Mosquitos (ages 10-11) practise in Alexandria., at Elda Rouleau on Mondays and in GDHS gym 1 on Wednesdays. Times are 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Peewee players (ages 12-13) practise in Alexandria, on Mondays at Le Relais and Thursdays at GDHS (gym 2/3). Times are 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The bantams (ages 14-16) workout Mondays at Elda Rouleau (7:30 to 9 p.m.), Wednesdays in gym 3 at GDHS (6 to 7:30 p.m.), and Fridays at VCI in Vankleek Hill (7:30 to 9 p.m.).

While many communities have been battling flood waters, Glengarrians awoke to a dusting of snow Monday morning.

Yes, it is May 8.

The Glengarry Gaels community youth football club will field four football teams in the spring league season, offering the gridiron game to boys and girls with birth years from 2001 through 2010. 

Registration is ongoing, with training camps having recently kicked off.

The season is slated to open in early May.

Motorists are advised that Prescott-Russell County Road 9 on both sides of the Séguin Bridge in the Riceville-Fournier area is closed due to flooding. It is not yet known when the road will re-open for travel.

Like many other water courses, the South Nation River has risen rapidly over the last 24 hours due to heavy rain.

Heavy rains have swollen every watercourse in the area.

This foot bridge at Kenyon and Sandfield Streets in Alexandria has been submerged as the Garry River has left its banks, flooding many yards in the process.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for our area, indicating the possibility of overnight freezing rain as a storm approaches. Thursday will bring some rain.
