Labour Update
May 5, 2015 – Update #2

Last night, the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) provided notice to the Upper Canada District School Board - and, in fact, all English public boards across the province - that they intend to begin strike action on Monday May 11.
We know this action will affect students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, but at this moment we do not know exactly what this strike action will entail. The planned job action could range from a partial withdrawal of services, such as coaching, to a full walkout. We expect to hear more information from ETFO shortly on their plans for next week and we will share that information with you as soon as we have it.

The staff and trustees at the Upper Canada District School Board understand that this uncertainty can cause a lot of anxiety for students and parents. While we can't promise to avoid every negative effect of a potential job action, we are committed to keeping you informed and supporting you through the process.

Our first priority remains our students’ education and we will continue to work toward achieving their success.

There are a number of ways you can stay informed:
1. UCDSB Website: Labour Updates
2. Your local school website
3. Register for a account by calling or visiting your school office. Urgent messages regarding labour action will be provided through text message, voicemail or email.
4. Social Media—follow @UCDSB on Twitter; and/or Like our page on Facebook at

Thank you for your patience in this challenging time.
Jeff McMillan, Chair
Charlotte Patterson, Director of Education
