The Bainsville Recreation Association is gearing up for its annual Family Fun Hockey Day, slated for Feb. 6 at noon at the Jack Danaher Park.
Although the association has been holding an annual hockey event for quite some time now, this is only the second year for the family day. In the past, the park hosted an annual hockey tournament but association director Dave Robertson says his group decided to take things in a new direction.
“This is for all people – young and old,” he says. “Teams will be made up as they arrive. Grandparents are encouraged to play with their grandchildren.”
There won’t be a championship game this year. The event is all about the game and having fun, though Mr. Robertson encourages all young people to wear gloves and helmets.
The entry fee is $5 per person. All funds will go to park maintenance.
This event coincides with national Hockey Day in Canada, which sees the roots of the game celebrated across the country.
