Fentanyl alert

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) and the Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) are warning the public that illicit Fentanyl has been seized by authorities within the five eastern counties.
“Fentanyl, whether it’s the real thing produced by the pharmaceutical industry or illicit, is an opioid drug that slows down the part of the brain that controls breathing,” says Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health at the EOHU. “Illicit Fentanyl is deadly because the dosage is not controlled and it can therefore cause people to completely stop breathing.”
The health unit and Cornwall Police are reminding the public not to buy any drugs off the street as there’s no way of knowing what’s inside them.

Truck stolen

September 28, between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., a black 2007 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pick-up truck (Ontario plates 9387XZ) was stolen from a property on County Road 27 in South Glengarry Township.

Anyone with information regarding the person(s) responsible for any incident should immediately contact SD&G OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Glens get first win, skate into Williamstown tonight

It took five games, but the Alexandria junior 'B' Glens finally have their first win, having prevailed last night on home ice, over the Clarence Beavers. Tonight, the team skates south to Williamstown, to take on the Char-Lan Rebels, who are mired in a five-game losing slump.

Uttering threats charge

A Montréal man has been charged after Ontario Provincial Police officers intercepted a vehicle Thursday on Highway 401 in South Glengarry Township. The driver became aggressive with officers upon his arrest and verbally threatened them. Officers also seized a quantity of marijuana and a knife in the vehicle. While in custody at the detachment, the accused damaged a cell. Jimmy Arias, 29, is charged with uttering threats. possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose possession of a controlled substance, mischief and obstructing a peace officer. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Cornwall court.

2 charged with thefts

Two North Glengarry residents have been charged after police recovered a quantity of stolen goods at a Main Street, Alexandria residence September 20.

Stephane Brassard, 44, and Rebecca Lacombe, 39, were charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime.
