With Summer unofficially beginning this weekend, many will be considering taking a dip at the beach in Alexandria's Island Park. However, folks ought to tread lightly as some Canada geese have staked a claim on a section of the shore. This bird is very determined to protect newly hatched goslings. Remember that the Victoria Day long weekend also marks an increased police presence on highways.

Collision blocks strip of 417

The westbound lanes of Highway 417 near the Ontario-Québec border are closed following a collision involving two trucks.

The collision occurred when a westbound transport truck collided with a vehicle known as a "Truck Mounted Attenuator (also commonly referred to as Crash Truck)" which was stopped on a portion of the roadway where repair work was being conducted. The drivers of both involved vehicles have been transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Detours have been set up re-routing westbound traffic at the provincial border. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

Man charged with luring

A 64-year-old North Glengarry man is to appear in Alexandria court June 7 to face a charge of invitation to sexual touching.

Robert Leroux was arrested May 15 by Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officers who responded to a report that a man on Derby Street had attempted to lure two girls.

No contact or injuries resulted.

Voyeurism, harassment charges

A 56-year-old North Glengarry man has been charged following an ongoing investigation into incidents of voyeurism.

Roderick Welburn has been charged with two counts of voyeurism and one count of criminal harassment, reports the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment.

The investigation indicated that between March and April, 2017, the man had attended a residence on County Road 24, North Glengarry Township and peered through a window of the home on two occasions.

Fraud victims sought

Investigators are seeking people who have been victimized by Kingston-based Next Level Investments, the subject of a police investigation that resulted in five people being charged with fraud.

The investigative team, which includes detectives from both the Kingston Police and the OPP, is now in a position to hear from people who may believe that they are a victim of this company or may have invested with them and either received or were promised a return for their investment. Fatal on 138 – update

The victim of a head-on collision on Highway 138, north of Willy Allan Road in South Stormont, May 10, has been identified as Azizullah Assadzada, 27, of Ottawa. He died when his northbound 2010 Toyota collided with a transport truck at about 6 a.m. yesterday. The truck driver, a 63-year-old man from Chelsea, was not injured. Police continue to investigate the accident.
