Sunday sports schedule: soccer, skating, hockey

It's a busy day in the county sports scene.

This morning at the dome, two girls soccer playoff champions will be crowned. The GSL's U13 title tilt goes at 9 a.m., followed by the U16 girls match at 10 a.m.

This afternoon in Williamstown, at 2 p.m., the Char-Lan Skating Club will hold its annual showcase to cap off the season.

Back up north later, the bantam rep. 'B' Glens hockey team can claim the UCMHL championship with a win or tie, entering the contest with two victories to their credit. The start time at the Palace is set for 5:30 p.m., with Kemptville providing the opposition.

At 7 p.m., Alexandria's midget house hockey team will also be vying for a league crown, on home ice.

In Cornwall, the Glengarry-laden CCHL (junior 'A' hockey) playoff series between the Colts and Hawkesbury Hawks continues, with game six at the Civic Complex. That's a 7 p.m. start, with the Colts facing a must-win situation to extend the series.

High school sports schedule resumes today

After a two-week hiatus for academic exams, the high school sports schedule resumes today, with boys basketball at three sites in Cornwall, including Holy Trinity, and girls volleyball at Char-Lan DHS in Williamstown.

On tap for Tuesday is a boys hockey tournament in Williamstown. Should the forecast poor weather materialize and force bus cancellations, this event will be held Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday is the annual SDGAA curling championships. Day 1 will be played in Cornwall, with successful teams then moving on to a second day of play on Thursday, in Morrisburg.

High school sports schedule updates

With the snow day today for the region's schools, girls volleyball games scheduled in the SDGAA league have been moved to next Monday, Dec. 19.

Boys basketball matches set for tomorrow, Dec. 13, are expected to be played as scheduled. Included on the docket are senior and junior games at GDHS, tipping off at 1pm.

There's also girls hockey slated for Wednesday in Chesterville.
