Tartan takes opener of GSL men's finals over McCrimmon

Last night at the dome in Alexandria, the Tartan Home Comfort senior men's team prevailed 5-1 over McCrimmon to win the opening match of the best-of-three Glengarry Soccer League finals.

Game two is scheduled for March 28, at 8:30pm. Should a third contest be needed, it will be played two days later, starting at 7:30pm.

Men's tier 2 soccer finals kick off Monday night

The matchup is now set for the GSL tier 2 men's division final series, a best-of-three, as McCrimmon will collide with the Glen Sandfield Celtic. The battle is booked to kick off on Labour Day Monday, on the main Char-Lan field in Williamstown, at 8:30 p.m. The series will then move to Lochiel for game two on Sept. 8, followed by a third contest on Sept. 12, if needed.

GSL soccer playoff schedule for Sept. 1

There will be a pair of men's soccer matches on Thursday night, as series continue in both the senior and tier 2 divisions.

Senior men

The Drillers will take on Greenfield, in Greenfield, at 8:30pm in a match that will decide the Glengarry Soccer League championship. Greenfield won game one of the best-of-three series, played on its home pitch, while the Drillers prevailed Tuesday evening in Alexandria to tie the series.

Tier 2 men

Sept. 1 will see McCrimmon and Greenfield's tier 2 squads battle in game three of their semifinal series. The match had originally been slated to be played in Greenfield but has since been bumped to the Dunvegan pitch, kicking off at 8:30pm.

The Glen Sandfield Celtic await the winner of this game. The finals, a best-of-three, will open next week.

Sexual assault charges

Two men have been charged with sexual assault after a Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment investigation into two incidents, one involving a young girl, that occurred in South Glengarry.
A North Grenville man was charged August 3 with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age, and abduction.
A 77-year-old South Glengarry man was charged August 6 with sexual assault.
The names of the accused are being withheld in order to protect the identity of their victims.
