CCHL Cornwall Colts set to open training camp on Monday

The Cornwall Colts of the CCHL will begin the 26th edition of their training camp on Monday, at Cornwall's multi-sport complex.

More than 40 players are expected to battle over three days looking to earn a spot on the team's 2017-18 junior 'A' roster. Returning players include goalie Liam Lascelle, defencemen Andrew Mercer, Alexander Monteleone, David Poirier and Roddie Sandilands, as well as forwards Konnor MacCormick, Christopher Mammas, Brennan Markell, Justin McRae, Ethan Mulhearn, Keegan Mulhearn, JD Pogue, Vincent Robillard, and Joseph Samson. Newcomers Zachary Cross and Cameron Hebert will also be at training camp.

After on-ice and off-ice sessions Monday and Tuesday, the Colts' annual Blue/White game will take place on Wednesday, August 23 at 7:30 pm.

The Colts exhibition schedule consists of two matches in a home-and-home series with the Trenton Golden Hawks of the OPJHL. Cornwall will host the Golden Hawks on Thursday, August 24 at7:30 pm.

Note, the Colts' exhibition games will be played at Cornwall's multi-sport complex. 

The Colts will travel to Trenton for the return match on Friday, August 25.

On Thursday, August 31 from 4 to 7 pm, the Colts will host their second annual pre-season puck drop party at Shoeless Joe’s, where fans will have the opportunity to meet the players.

The regular season is slated to begin at the league's showcase with a game against Smiths Falls on Saturday, September 2, at 4:45 pm in Ottawa.

Hockey prospects invited to attend Colts camp in May

The Cornwall Colts have announced their 2017 Spring Junior A Import and Prospects Camp, to be held Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14, at the Ed Lumley Arena in Cornwall Civic Complex.

The cost is $250 (plus HST) per player.

Players can register by visiting under “camps”.

Cornwall junior A Colts on the brink of elimination

Updating the story we have for you in this week's edition of The Glengarry News, the Cornwall Colts of the CCHL find themselves on the brink of elimination heading into tonight's semifinal road contest.

Last evening in Cornwall, the Colts fell to the Ottawa Jr Senators 4-1, with David Poirier scoring the lone Colts goal.

Jaren Burke’s two markers paced Ottawa to the victory and a three-games-to-none lead in the series. Luke McCaw and Griffin MacGregor also scored for Ottawa which outshot the Colts 31-24. Merrick Rippon had 3 assists for the Jr. Sens.

Three Stars were First Star Jaren Burke (OTT), Second Star Merrick Rippon (OTT), and Third Star Dean Derouchie (COR).

The Colts travel to Ottawa tonight, looking to stave off elimination in game 4. Game time is 7:30pm at the Jim Durrell Rec Centre.

Should Cornwall prevail, game 5 will be back at the Civic Complex on Friday evening.

Junior A Colts trail CCHL semifinals 2-0, next game Tuesday

Nicolas Swanson’s goal with less than a minute to play in the third period pushed Ottawa to a 2-1 win over the Colts in game 2 of their CCHL semifinal series. The Jr. Sens lead the best of seven series 2-0.

Jaren Burke also scored for Ottawa. Tanner Spink tallied the lone Cornwall goal.

The Colts outshot the Jr. Sens 31-27, with Liam Lascelle suffering the loss in goal. Ian Andriano earned the goaltending victory for Ottawa.

Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday in Cornwall. Game time is 7:30pm at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).

In addition to Spink, county boys on the team are Jeremy McFarlane, Keegan Mulhearn, Ethan Mulhearn, Sebastian Dirven, and Roddie Sandilands.

Jr. A Colts drop semifinal opener on home ice

The Ottawa Jr Senators upset the Colts 5-1 in the opener of their CCHL semifinal series on Thursday night.

The Jr. Sens outshot the Colts 36-17 with Liam Lascelle getting tagged with the loss for the hometown Colts. Keegan Mulhearn broke Ian Andriano’s shutout bid with 9 minutes left in the third period for Cornwall's lone goal.

Hubert Delisle and Nicolas Samson each had a goal and two assists to lead Ottawa’s offence. Jaren Burke, Elie Boulerice, and Adrien Bisson also scored for the Sens.

Three Stars were First Star Hubert Delisle (OTT), Second Star Elie Boulerice (OTT), and Third Star Keegan Mulhearn (COR).

Game 2 in the best-of-seven series is scheduled for the Jim Durrell Rec. Centre in Ottawa, on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30pm.

The teams will then return to Cornwall for game 3 on Tuesday, April. Game time is 7:30pm at the Ed Lumley Arena, at Cornwall Civic Complex.

Colts playoff series extended by loss to Bears

The Smiths Falls Bears built a 2-0 lead and went on the beat the Colts 3-2 in Smiths Falls on Tuesday night to stave off elimination in their opening-round CCHL playoff series.

The Bears victory means game 5 will be played Thursday night in Cornwall, at the Civic Complex. Game time is 7:30pm.

Scott Gervais, Nicolas Coates, and Cole Busschaert scored for the Bears.  Nick Lalonde and Grant Cooper each had a goal and an assist for the Colts.

Cornwall outshot Smiths Falls 37-27 with Liam Lascelle getting tagged with his first loss of the post-season.

Heading into the match, the Colts were poised for the sweep, having won the first three games, with county boys playing key roles in each.

Lalonde nets hat trick in Colts junior A hockey victory

Nick Lalonde had a hat trick and added two assists as the Colts got by Cumberland 5-4 at the Ed Lumley Arena last Thursday night. Lalonde now has a tteam-leading31 goals on the season, as the Colts improved to 39-13-4-3 for 85 points.  The Colts remain tied for second overall in the CCHL with the Ottawa Jr. Senators.  The Jr. Sens own the tie-breaker.

Jeremy McFarlane (with his 12th of the season) and David Poirier (3rd) also scored for the Colts. Tanner Spink chipped in with two assists.

Cumberland outshot the Colts 48-27, with Liam Lascelle making 44 saves for his 28th victory of the season.

Three stars were Nick Lalonde (COR), Martin Frechette (CUM), and Brennan Markell.

Tomorrow, March 8, the Colts will hit the road to Ottawa, to take on the Jr Senators.

The Colts will play their final regular-season home game on Thursday, March 9, at the Cornwall Civic Complex, with the Gloucester Rangers providing the opposition. Game time is 7:30pm

Junior A Colts remain in second place despite loss to Hawks

Hawkesbury beat Cornwall 2-1 in overtime on Monday, at the Ed Lumley Arena. The overtime point pushed the Colts into sole possession of second overall in the CCHL standings, with a record of 36-13-3-3 (78 points).  

The Ottawa Jr Senators are in third place, one point back of the Colts, but with a game in hand.

Justin McRae (with his third of the season) scored the lone Colts' goal.  Hawkesbury outshot Cornwall 36-20, with Liam Lascelle getting the loss despite making 34 saves.

The Colts are 19-1-2 since December 8.

Three Stars were First Star David Jankowski (HAW), Second Star Tanner Spink (COR), and Third Star Brett Everson (HAW).

Looking ahead, the Colts will host the CCHL-leading Carlton Place Canadians on Thursday night. Game time is 7:30pm at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).

Junior A Colts stretch winning streak to five games

First star Liam Lascelle made 36 saves to backstop the Colts to a 3-2 win over the Brockville Braves at the Ed Lumley Arena on Thursday night.

The Braves outshot the Colts 38-28, but Lascelle was stellar in goal, earning his 23rd victory of the season.

Grant Cooper (with his 24th of the season) and Nick Lalonde (22nd) paced thoffencese, each netting a goal and an assist.  Justin McRae (2nd) also scored for the Colts, while Brennan Markell chipped in with two assists.

The Colts improved their record to 33-13-2-3 (71pts), as Cornwall remains in a tie with Ottawa for second overall in the CCHL standings. The Colts have won five in a row and are 16-1-1 since early December.

Three stars were first Lascelle (COR), second Sean Allen (BRO), and third Ethan Mulhearn.

The Colts are back in action Friday night (Feb. 10) in Smiths Falls.  Game time is 7:30pm.  Cornwall then heads to Gloucester for a Sunday evening game against the Rangers.

The Colts return home on Thursday, Jan. 16th to host the Smiths Falls Bears.  Game time is 7:30pm at the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex).

Colts win in OT, now tied for second in CCHL

Brennan Markell’s 17th goal of the season was the overtime winner, as the Colts beat the Raiders 3-2 in overtime in Nepean.

It was the Colts' fourth straight victory, vaulting the Cornwall junior 'A' hockey team into a tie for second place overall in the CCHL standings, at 32-13-2-3 (69 pts).

Matt Efros made 28 saves in goal as the Colts outshot the Raiders 39-30.

Shawn Baird (5th) and JD Pogue (15th) also scored for the Colts.

Tonight, Feb. 9, Cornwall will host Brockville at the Ed Lumley Arena, in Cornwall Civic Complex. Game time is 7:30pm.
