17-year-old dies in 401 crash

A 17-year-old Glengarry District High School student died when the car he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 near Morrisburg Wednesday.

Joshua Seguin was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which occurred at 9:37 a.m.

He was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of the 401 when his passenger vehicle collided with the truck, reports the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Update: Truck driver charged in school bus accident

A 51-year-old Toronto truck driver has been charged with careless driving following an Ontario Provincial Police investigation into Wednesday's bus accident near Hawkesbury.

Five children were taken by ambulance, a bus driver was airlifted to hospital and 19 children taken to hospital as a precaution after a transport rear-ended a school bus on Highway 34 between Hawkesbury and Vankleek Hill at 9 a.m. this morning, reports the Hawkesbury OPP detachment.

Four vehicles were involved in the collision that occurred near Pleasant Corners Public School.

The bus driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken by helicopter to an Ottawa hospital.

The students were transported to the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital.

Occupants of the other vehicles were not hurt.

Victim Services of Prescott-Russell attended the hospital to provide assistance and support to parents and students.

Update: Road to be closed for extended time

A section of Highway 138 in South Stormont will remain closed for an extended period of time following a two-vehicle collision between Quail and McDonald Roads.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that at approximately 10:08 am, a passenger vehicle was travelling northbound on Highway 138 when, for reasons under investigation, crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a southbound tractor-trailer. The man driving the passenger vehicle was taken to hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was taken to hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

As the investigation continues, a section of Highway 138 between Quail Road and McDonald Road is closed to traffic with indicated detours in place.

Wrong way on 401, driver charged

A New Brunswick man faces several charges after a driver suffered serious injuries in a March 27 collision caused by a vehicle driving the wrong way on Highway 401 between Lancaster and Cornwall. An Ontario Provincial Police officer suffered minor injuries when he stopped Cary Carrière, 47, of Grand Falls, who was charged with flight causing bodily harm, assaulting and obstructing a police officer, dangerous operation of a vehicle, impersonation, leaving the scene of an accident and breach of probation conditions, reports the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police detachment. The crash occurred at about 4:15 p.m. on the eastbound 401 between McConnell Road and Boundary Road when a commercial rental vehicle travelling westbound entered the eastbound lane, colliding with a passenger vehicle.

The man driving the eastbound passenger vehicle, the sole occupant, was taken to hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.

Man killed in head-on collision

A 69-year-old Gatineau man was killed and a 34-year-old Cornwall woman seriously injured in a head-on collision on County Road 43 near Avonmore January 23 at 10 p.m. The man was driving a passenger vehicle westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck another passenger vehicle. The lone occupant of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to the hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. Names are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

Section of 401 closed at Prescott

A section of Highway 401 remains closed following a multiple vehicle collision on Highway 401 between Prescott and Highway 416.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that two transport trailers and three vehicles were travelling eastbound on Highway 401 when the collision occurred.

Two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. Three individuals have been transported to the hospital by ambulance and one individual by air ambulance with serious and life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin.

A 60-year-old male from Brossard, Quebec was arrested for dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm.

Highway 401 eastbound is closed until further notice.

Highway 401 westbound remains closed from an earlier collision on November 27 at approximately 3:50 p.m. involving two other transport trailers.

The Ontario Provincial Police Technical Collision Investigator is assisting with the investigation.
