sean Mar 8, 2017 - 5:27pm

Today there was and is plenty going on in the world of high school hockey, including boys EOSSAA in Cornwall.

Char-Lan DHS was competing in the event as the wildcard, losing both games to be eliminated. Host St. Joseph's (the top seed) was also bounced after round-robin play with two defeats.

The girls team from Char-Lan DHS is skating in Arnprior at EOSSAA and at last report had qualified to play in the final, with round-robin results of a tie and win.

Tonight in Cornwall is the annual Bishop's Cup Catholic charity game between the Holy Trinity Falcons and the St. Joseph's Panthers.

We will have stories in next week's edition of The Glengarry News.

Today, Char-Lan DHS' girls hockey team was supposed to be skating at EOSSAA in Arnprior, but that event too has been bumped, moved to tomorrow.

Boys high school hockey playoffs on today in Long Sault

sean Feb 28, 2017 - 12:00pm

As we reported last week in The Glengarry News, the SDGAA high school boys hockey playoffs are taking place today, in Long Sault.

The first semifinal pitted the fourth-place GDHS Gaels against the unbeaten St. Joseph's Panthers. The Gaels had a 3-1 lead, only to have the Panthers draw even. Overtime settled nothing, so it was on to a shootout, where St. Joe's prevailed to end the season for the GD boys.

The Panthers advance to the final, set for 1p.m, where they will face the winner of the other semifinal, which is being played now between Char-Lan and Seaway.

Back on Feb. 14, the regular season concluded. We had a recap in last week's The News.

Updating information in that article, Char-Lan's 5-0 win over North Dundas saw Landon Fraser (2), Riley MacDonald, Xandre Seguin, and John Richer all find the net. The Crusaders' second contest was a 4-0 loss to the Panthers.

Char-Lan coach Sean O'Farrell told The News that the St. Joe's goaltender had a particularly strong game, adding he hopes to have a rematch with the team in today's playoffs. If that happens, it will be with the SD&G title on the line.

St. Joseph's is also set to host EOSSAA, next week.
