Junior A Colts hockey team hosts charity game for St. Vincent de Paul

The 5th Annual Benson Colts charity hockey game in support of St. Vincent De Paul took place on Sunday, December 9, in Cornwall. Eighteen local celebrities suited up alongside Colts players in a fun game to raise money and collect food items for the charity.

This year $2,000 was raised, bringing the historical total to over $12,000 raised thanks to this fun event. The official score was 8-8.

The Benson Group once again the title sponsor for the event, with Shoeless Joe’s providing post-game munchies.

Williamstown's Hockey with Heart tournament supports charity

Last Saturday, the second annual Hockey with Heart outdoor tournament took place in Williamstown, raising funds in support of Beyond 21 and the Julie MacLachlan Foundation.

Colts charity game supports St. Vincent de Paul

The Cornwall Colts junior 'A' hockey team joined several community partners to help raise $4,500 for St. Vincent De Paul Cornwall. The money was raised through the 4th Annual Colts Charity Hockey Game held last Sunday afternoon.

The Benson Group, Scotiabank, and Shoeless Joe’s Cornwall headline the list of supporters for the event.  Each local celebrity paid $100 for St. Vincent De Paul to participate. 

Team MacInnis has bragging rights over Team McBride this year, thanks to a 10-8 victory.  

"The players have a lot of fun getting to know some of our community partners," said Coach Ian MacInnis. "The local celebrities get to see just how good some our players are.  It’s a lot of fun for everyone involved."

Junior 'A' Colts schedule series of community events in December

The Cornwall Colts of the CCHL usher in December with a number of events scheduled to give back to the community.

The annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of the Optimist Toy Drive will take place at this Thursday’s home game, against the Kemptville 73’s. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal. When the Colts score their first goal (or the end of the first period), all stuffed animals will be tossed onto the ice.

Also this week, fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game in support of the Stuff the Studio effort. Your Colts will bring all collected items to the St. Vincent De Paul Society office on Friday morning. Puck drop for the game is set for 7:30 p.m., at the Ed Lumley Arena, in Cornwall Civic Complex.

On Sunday (December 10), the Third Annual Colts Charity Hockey Game in support of the St. Vincent De Paul Society will be held. Local celebrities will team up with the Colts in a fun game of hockey at 2 p.m. at Cornwall's multi-sport complex (pad 1). Admission will be $5 or a non-perishable food item in support of the St. Vincent De Paul Society.    

Local celebrity players scheduled to participate include Rob Ariagno - Seaway Yarns, Marty Benson – Benson Group, Steve Bernier – Scotiabank, Pierre Brousseau – AXXIS Optical, Paul Desnoyers – CKDM, Tom Everson – Cornwall Toyota, Andrew Frei – Riverside Auto Group, Mike Graham – Shoeless Joe’s Cornwall, Guy Lauzon – MP, Ian MacInnis – Cornwall Colts, Josh MacMillan – Riverside Auto Group, Brock McBride – Own The Ice, Tim McCuaig – Cornwall Hyundai, David Murphy – Cornwall City Council, Andre Pommier – Pommier Jewellers, Neil Sandilands – Cornwall Royals Alumni, Mike Turcotte – Foot & Ankle Clinic, Pierre Voisine – City of Cornwall, and Scott White – Scotiabank.

Celebrity coaches include Dan Allaire – BOOM 101.9, Bill Halman – BOOM 101.9, Trish McCormick – Boston Pizza, Jim McDonell – MPP, and David Smith – South Stormont Council.

Santa Claus is coming to the Ed Lumley Arena! Santa will visit the Colts game against Hawkesbury on Thursday, December 21. Santa will be handing out treats to Colts fans of all ages.

Beaver Swamp Hockey Tournament partners with JumpStart to help kids

The Beaver Swamp Hockey Tournament, of which The Glengarry News covers its annual event each February, recently partnered with the local chapter of the JumpStart Foundation to continue the mission of helping local kids in need to play hockey. Junior 'A' Colts beat Kemptville, set to host charity game on Sunday

Dean Derouchie’s 10th goal of the season with just over 7 minutes in the third period sealed the Colts’ 3-1 victory over the Kemptville 73’s at the Ed Lumley Arena in Cornwall on Thursday night.

Konnor MacCormick (with his eighth and ninth of the season) scored the other two for the home side, as Cornwall improved to 18-12-1-3 for 40 points and fifth overall in the CCHL standings.

The Colts outshot the 73’s 37-26, with Liam Lascelle picking up his 11th victory of the season between the pipes.

Three Stars were First Star Konnor MacCormick (COR), Second Star Liam Lascelle (COR), and Third Star Nicholas Hodgins (KEMP).

The Colts will be back in action in Hawkesbury against the Hawks Friday night (Dec. 9).  Game time at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex is 7:30pm.

Cornwall returns to the Ed Lumley Arena (Cornwall Civic Complex) next Thursday (Dec. 15) to host the Smiths Falls Bears, starting at 7:30pm.

The 4th Annual Benson Colts Celebrity Charity Hockey Game in support of St. Vincent De Paul Society is set for Sunday, Dec. 11 at Cornwall's multi-sport complex (Pad 1). Fans are invited to attend to watch local celebrities as they play with the Colts in some fun hockey action. Admission is a non-perishable food item or $5, with all food and money raised going to St. Vincent De Paul Society.  Game time is 3pm.
