Kings lose pair of weekend games

office Oct 17, 2014 - 5:16pm

(By Rodney Wilson)      It was a Thanksgiving weekend to forget for the River Kings.

On Sunday afternoon in Trois-Rivieres, Cornwall fell 6-2 to the Blizzard Cloutier Nord-Sud. Stephane Boileau and Nicolas Dumoulin led the Trois-Rivieres’ attack with two goals apiece. Anthony Mezzagno had a two-goal performance for the River Kings. Loic Lacasse took the loss in goal for Cornwall, who was outshot 47-39. The River Kings powerplay struggled on the afternoon, going 1-for-11.

It was the third consecutive loss for Cornwall (1-3), which was defeated 10-4 by Laval on Friday in its home opener at the Civic Complex.

The River Kings will look to get back into the win column next weekend with a pair of road contests. Cornwall visits Thetford-Mines on Friday, Oct. 17 and the following night they travel to St-Georges. The River Kings' next home game is Saturday, Oct. 25 when Jonquiere pays a visit to the Ed Lumley Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Lancaster Curling Club invites members to opening bonspiel

office Oct 16, 2014 - 1:09pm

Here's an invitation from match chair Elizabeth Desjardins to register for the upcoming opening bonspiel at the Lancaster Curling Club.

It is very hard to think about dressing up in warm clothes to curl when most of us are wearing tee shirts and, perhaps the very brave, are wearing shorts! I just want to send a note to announce the Opening Bonspiel. It will be held on Saturday, November 1st. That date differs from the one you would have read in an earlier Newsletter. I postponed the day to give everyone a chance to get out and curl a bit beforehand. There is a  sign-up sheet at the club, so please consider joining us on November 1st. The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 24th.

River Kings split weekend

sportseditor Oct 6, 2014 - 2:37pm

(Submitted by Rodney Wilson)     The River Kings opened their 2014-15 LNAH season with a long road trip and came away with a weekend split.

On Saturday night in Jonquiere, the Kings were dealt a 5-1 loss by the two-time defending champion Marquis. Francis Charette led the way for Jonquiere with two goals and an assist.
The River Kings power play went 0-for-11 on the night. Doug Andress had the lone Cornwall goal.

On Friday night at Riviere-du-Loup, Loic Lacasse turned aside 45-of-47 shots to backstop the River Kings to a 5-2 victory in their season opener. Andress’ goal 50 seconds into the third period proved to be the game winner. Rookie forward Antony Courcelles, Jonathan Jasper, Julien Corriveau, and Nicolas Corbeil (into an empty net) also scored for Cornwall. Olivier Filion celebrated his birthday with a victory in his coaching debut for the River Kings.

Looking ahead, Cornwall will host the Laval Predateurs on Friday, Oct. 10 in the Kings' home opener. It all will get underway at 8 p.m. at the Cornwall Civic Complex.
